Todays Poster – Lerwick, Shetland Islands

Shetland is part of Scotland but the town’s name is rooted in Old Norse and a local dialect, Norn, which was spoken in Shetland until the mid-19th century. The name “Lerwick” means bay of clay. The Shetlands is noted as a major roosting location for puffins but also has a a number interesting archeological sights dating back over a thousand years.
