Pizzeria il Cantuccio Civitavecchia

Civitavecchia is a really nice city with a number of good restaurants and lots of shopping. It wouldn’t be a tourist destination though if half the cruise ships in the Mediterranean weren’t coming and going from its port. That’s what probably brings most of us to this city. The waterfront is about eight or ten blocks long, stretching from the train station to the original port entrance. To its credit there are a number of inviting restaurants along this strip featuring outdoor seating. Great for a cappuccino, wine or a bite but if you want pizza we have a couple of suggestions…

To find the pizzeria walk down the water front toward the port until you get to the McDonalds. Turn right and walk up two blocks and follow the street to the left past the pedestrian mall. On the far side of the Cathedral of San Francesco d’Assisi turn right on Via Monte Grappa. Walk up the hill and take the third left on Via Monte Grappa and the Pizzeria Il Cantuccio Civitavecchia is on the left.

On a number of visits to Civitavecchia we have stayed at the Hotel Porto Roma, a really nice, small hotel in a convenient location to the port. The Pizzeria il Cantuccio is right across the street from the Porto Roma.
If you have a craving for authentic pizza this neighborhood pizzeria is the real thing with a number of great choices including a dessert pizza. They offer single serve bottles of wine and beer on tap.
A Second Choice
Pizzeria Margherita Di Gandolfi Cristian is back and only a block south from the Hotel Porto Roma and it looks very similar to what we remembered. It’s a local place offering several pies by the slice for take-away.

Please Note: A long time ago we had discovered the Pizzeria Margherita Di Gandolfi Cristian. It was a small neighborhood pizzeria with great pizza and a local vibe and recommended it to our friends. A while ago we were back in Civitavecchia and decided on pizza. When we got there the pizzeria was closed. It looked like it was being remodeled for another business. Walking just a block up hill we found the Pizzeria il Cantuccio and while a larger and more upscale it had that same neighborhood feel.
