The Misty Fjord covers 2,142,243 acres and was designated in 1980 as the Misty Fjords National Monument Wilderness and is the largest wilderness area in the Tongass National Forest. A favorite series of fjords on cruise ship itineraries it includes the impressive Dawes Glacier famous for calving into the fjord.
