Our Lady of the Rocks sits on an islet in Kotor Bay, Montenegro. It is an artificial island created by depositing rocks and sinking old fishing boats loaded with rocks on the spot. There is a legend dating back to the 1400’s of a crippled fisherman finding an icon of the Virgin Mary in the bay that healed him. That prompted the depositing of rocks in the water where the miracle took place to build an island for a shrine to the Virgin Mary.
