The Faces of Moroccan Women

Today in Morocco you’ll find wide disparities regarding attitudes toward a woman’s role in society, and there are great differences between Moroccan regions. In general women in the north are expected to fill traditional roles and live by Muslim customs while in the south women are more likely to go to college and work in professions. Much of the differences are reflected in women’s dress. In the north you’ll still see women wearing black burqas, loose fitting, plain robes and a lot of hijabs, while in the south modern western dress is common but still hijabs are often worn.
