Why are waterfalls so appealing?
People will hike miles through rugged country or spend thousands of dollars on an international trip specifically with the purpose of seeing a waterfall. We often categorize them in terms like natural wonders over other landscapes like mountain ranges, deserts or shorelines. But why?
Psychologists have at times suggested the attraction that waterfalls have captivates people through a powerful combination of multifaceted sensory experiences that include visual, auditory and often tactile. They also suggest that they appeal to our fundamental notions of beauty as well as immersing us in a psychologically calming experience. But maybe it’s just the wonder of being there.
