

On the small island of Lifou, a commune of France in the Loyalty Islands of New Caledonia in the South Pacific, is a cross erected above Sandalwood Bay to mark the arrival of Catholic missionaries to the island in April 1858.

The village of Easo is on Sandalwood Bay on the north coast of Lifou. The bay provides an excellent cruise ship anchorage and with its tender dock it makes the island a popular stop on many cruise itineraries.
