Living On The Edge Of Survival

There is a place in America where survival is still, at times, a struggle. Where winter temperatures average daily highs from 2°F to 16°F and lows from -12°F to -18°F, with the coldest month (January) dropping lower with severe cold frequently pushing readings past -40°F.

Not only is the cold a threat but wild animal encounters can also be a frequent and very dangerous event. While bears are a threat the most dangerous common animal is the moose.

It’s not unusual for people to call in to say they will be late for work because there’s a moose in the front yard. And a momma moose protecting a baby can be very dangerous.

This city is where everyone seems to drive an electric car, as virtually every car seems to have an electric plug hanging out of its grill? Parking spaces all around the city are usually outfitted with electric outlets (below)?

These seeming electric cars are actually using the plugs to run heaters under the hood to keep the car engines from freezing solid on frigid winter nights.
