Always Travel With The Right Insurance!

We’ve often written about the importance of travel insurance, especially when traveling internationally. but it is equally important to have the right insurance. Here are some important things to understand about medical insurance and travel.
YOUR PRIMARY MEDICAL INSURANCE
Chances are you have either national health insurance coverage or a retirement health plan or a general health insurance policy, but do they cover you when you travel internationally? You need to be sure about you coverage and where it covers you. Almost all national plans do not provide benefits when you travel and private health plans may not cover you either or if the do there can be major limits.
So before you travel internationally or even take a short cruise make sure you understand your coverage.
HAVING TRAVEL INSURANCE
There are a number of companies that offer travel insurance and many plans can be inexpensive for short trips or if you travel frequently there are also annual plans that can save you money. For an excellent article on selecting the right travel insurance company and plan click HERE.
We recently learned a lot more about what’s important in insurance from a travel emergency experience in Africa. At that time we had an annual policy with Allianz and we were very pleased with the coverage and their response which included guaranteeing payment to South African doctors and hospital.

We also had an emergency evacuation policy witn EA+ that we had simply renewed year after year. Some argue that we were over insured as Allianz also provided evacuation coverage, but EA+ was a real life saver. From the instant we contacted them they took charge (actually it was 15 minutes) and in that time they had called and talked to our doctor, quickly arranged an air ambulance and also selected a destination hospital and notified a medical team there! Later they also provided a traveling nurse to accompany us home and arrainged for all the return flights!
For the next few weeks you can save on a policy with EA+ if you use our referral link below
Emergency Assistance Plus (EA+), a membership designed to provide emergency medical transportation when you travel away from home. Use our referral link below to get $25 off your annual membership using The Intentional Traveler’s Referral Link: Refer A Friend Link
Another thing that we believe is critically important to have before traveling anywhere is a set of medical documents that provide details on medical history, current drugs, allergies and doctor contact information. In an emergency minutes count and doctors need to know as much as possible about your medical history. You or your companion may not be in any condition to offer that information or be muc help. It doesn’t have to be a file folder and can actally be just a simple information card:
THE TRUTH IS YOU REALLY NEED TO CARRY THIS CARD AND OURS IS COMPLETELY FREE!

In an uncertain world you can never be too prepared and that goes double for international travel. Will your health insurance cover you overseas? In an emergency how will foreign officials know who to contact and how?
In addition to your passport you really need to cary an additional emergency ID card.
That’s why The Intentional Travelers recommended carrying an Emergency ID Card. They are probably your most inexpensive piece of extra travel assurance.
For years we sold thousands of these cards as downloads as well as printed versions online. Some years ago we gave it up as it was too difficult to manage and travel too. So, today we’ve decided to make the downloads available for free.

Download our free Emergency Travel ID Card in a pdf file that can be filled out, printed and carried with you. Each printed sheet will produce four 2-sided fold-over 4 x 3.5 inch cards or 2 x 3.5 standard sized business cards.
