The Gateway of India is an iconic Mumbai monument built in 1924, and commemorates the visit of King George V and Queen Mary to India. The structure is designed in the Indo-Saracenic architectural style, combining elements of Hindu and Muslim architecture, reflecting the diverse cultural heritage of India.
Currently the Taj Mahal Palace Hotel is remembered as the target of a coordinated series of terrorist assaults that took place in Mumbai on November 26, 2008. This horrific event involved heavily armed Muslim terrorists targeting the iconic Taj Mahal Hotel. The attack resulted in significant casualties and left a lasting impact on the city and its residents regarding India’s vulnerability to Muslim terrorist attacks.
