In North America along with many aditional cities around the planet most people get their groceries in modern supermarkets. It may be a highly efficient distribution system but something has been lost along the way. Across much of Asia, Africa and in many small towns and a number of European cities the city open-air market is still going strong along with farmers markets mostly on the weekend.

From Budapest to Thailand, Sri Lanka to Corsica stalls in city markets is still the most popular way to by groceries.
